Korean Inspired Makeup for Everyday

https://youtu.be/eRobQbINAXM

Lately I’ve been into Korean makeup, which focuses more in creating a watery moist complexion. This look is all about looking youthful without going overboard. Nothing cakey, no over-contouring or dramatic brows at all. If you want to find out how I achieve this look, please watch my videos or read more below.

The pictures below are featured as insert in my youtube video. You can see better here how different my skin looks after each step. Korean makeup focuses a lot on making the skin looking very moist and well hydrated. You’ll see many Koreans with an amazing skin and that’s because they have a great and thorough skincare regime. My skin, on the other hand, is anything but great.

So, to fake this, my first step is to moisturize my skin using Bobbi Brown Vit. Enriched Face base (not in picture), and then I applied Deciem NIOD Photography Fluid. I love using NIOD Photography Fluid, it makes my skin looks brighter and already better than before.

After applying the NIOD Photography Fluid, I applied my foundation. For many Koreans that means applying BB cream or CC Cream or Cushion Foundation. Today I’m using Laneige Cushion Foundation in Medium. It has a really great coverage and the finish is on the natural side. I barely put much on my skin, and already you can see in the after picture, my skin looks very even and my imperfections are already covered pretty well.

I’ve also added YSL touche eclat under my eyes. Since Korean makeup style prefers under eye bag (this trend is called Aegyo Sal), there isn’t really a need to completely cover the under eyes. Puffy under eye bags are considered cute, and some girls in Korea actually purposely highlight their bags to make it stand out even more.

If in North America, we prefer angular brows, in Korea they like a straighter brows. I first brushed my brows using a styling mousse to add texture and then I filled my brows in using a brow powder. I created a straighter line on the lower part of my brows to make it look more straight.

I believe the reason why Korean makeup prefers a straighter brow shape is because it makes them look younger. If you look at kids, you can see how Korean makeup trend tries to mimic that component of youthfulness – bigger eyes, straighter brows, flushed round cheeks.

For my eye makeup, it’s really simple, just some eyeshadow and mascara. Obviously this is a natural makeup look so we don’t use much eyeshadows.

The last thing that makes this look similar to Korean makeup is the gradient lips. While in North America women tend to prefer bigger fuller lips, Korean makeup trend prefers smaller lips since it makes women look cuter. Asian women generally have smaller thinner lips, so this might be easier to apply if you have smaller lips. All you have to do is to apply most of the lip colour in the center of your lips and blend it outwards.

Since I have a fuller lips, in Asian standard, what I did in this tutorial is to first apply a base colour which was YSL no. 17 lipstick. It’s a peachy coral lip colour, very soft and pretty. I still focused most of the colour in the center of my lips and I blended it outwards. Then using a stronger brighter colour, YSL no. 52 lipstick, I only placed this colour in the center of my lips. To soften my lip lines, I pursed my lips together and apply the foundation over the lines to create an illusion of smaller lips.
